Synopsis

The documentary series "REBELDE. Josu Urrutikoetxea" is a journey through his life. A documentary series that takes a look back at his life in four chapters.

"REBELDE" is not only a journey through his 50 years of activism, but also a journey through his memories, his experiences, his emotions, his feelings, his childhood, his youth and his activism, a journey through his career as an E.T.A. activist.It is an expression of his tireless struggle, his activism, his tenacity, his strength, his perseverance, his closeness, his affection...

A reference of struggle, commitment, and activism for several generations.

Josu has been a benchmark in many ways, in many struggles, in many key moments of our recent history, in many situations...
 

It is impossible to forget his work, as well as that of thousands and thousands of anonymous men and women. This series of documentaries is also an exercise in "historical memory" because of their commitment, their work, their hard moments of struggle, of testimonies, of injustice, of tension, of powerlessness, of anger, of determination, of ambushes, of the front line, of tributes, of strong emotions, of encounters and misunderstandings, of losses, of successes, of victories, of celebrations, of moments of pure adrenaline, of euphoria, of solidarity... In short, of struggle.

In these four chapters, Josu Urrutikoetxea reviews his life. From his early years in Ugao, his studies in Basauri and the School of Engineering, his entry into ETA and his contacts with Argala to dark episodes such as the so-called dirty war attack he suffered at his home in Biarritz or the death of Joxe Mari Aranzamendi "Katxue" in the prison cell of Alcalá-Meco.

 

He also offers his reflections on the so-called Transition and the lack of democratic rupture with respect to Francoism, several of the splits or the process of negotiation with the Spanish state. He also emphasises the importance of transmission between generations for the future of the Basque Country.

Motivation

Josu has been and is a reference figure in the Basque Country, above all for his activism, but he is also a very close, honest and noble person.
A person with so many virtues, dignity, strength, nobility and tenacity... We could not miss the opportunity to make him a documentary, a tribute to him as a person and to his tireless struggle.
The way he transmits his life and experiences does not leave you indifferent. It moves you, catches you, makes you interested, makes you laugh and cry, transmits sensitivity, transmits tenacity, strength, struggle and love.
